About Rachel Savageau, LMT
Therapist & Owner of FCM
Rachel Savageau is a 2012 graduate of The Swedish Institute, College of Health Science. Located in New York City, The Swedish Institute is one of the most prestigious schools of massage therapy in the U.S. She holds an associates degree in Massage Therapy and has over 6000 hours of practical massage experience. She specializes in medical massage, treating a variety of injuries, ailments, and conditions including those related to prenatal and postpartum care.
She is a Licensed Massage Therapist in the State of New York and a Certified Massage Therapist in the State of California. She is also a certified lymphatic drainage therapist.
Before pursuing a career in massage therapy she worked primarily in a political and business setting. She became unsatisfied with the lack of personal interaction and efficacy of her labor. Her desire to promote change and wellness on an individual level motivated her to choose massage therapy as a career.
Rachel has a long, personal history with standard health care and treatment options. Her interest in complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) was sparked after a difficult diagnosis of Celiac Disease in 2007. The preceding 5 year period of misdiagnoses was frustrating and led her to explore many different forms of treatment. She was inspired by many of the alternative medicine practitioners she came in contact with during this time.
While Rachel had treated plenty of prenatal and postpartum clients in conjunction with her other medical massage clients, she didn't begin to focus on really integrating them into her practice until 2015 where it became 75% of her client base. However, Rachel had yet to experience pregnancy and childbirth herself until July 2016 when she found out she was expecting a baby boy due the following April. It was a long and difficult pregnancy, leaving her full of new found perspective and empathy for her prenatal and postpartum clients. Now in Albany County, Rachel hopes to be able to focus on the whole family, with emphasis on new and expectant mothers.
In her practice Rachel hopes to help give people the tools to take control of their own health. She hopes that by sharing her skill and knowledge with her clients they will be able to engage in the mutual endeavor of identifying the problem and initiating healing by re-creating the harmony within the context of the whole.
